Since “the invention of the teenager” in the 1920’s, there has been an
unending stream of articles, surveys, cocktail conversations, late-night
rants, books and films offering up answers to the question, “What’s with
teens today?”One hundred years on, what more on the topic could we possibly learn?
Turns out, plenty.
If we turn down the volume on the so-called “experts” and tune in teens
themselves, it becomes immediately clear that there is no precedent for the 21st Century coming-of-age experience. No singular narrative. No easy explanations. We just have to ask the right question(s)...
...and actually listen for/to the answers.
With this in mind, the Museum of the Contemporary American Teenager
(MoCAT) invites teenagers from across the country to answer the question
What are We Missing?
